Yesterday I bought a new a printer. A HP 5610 to be exact. Does it work in Linux you ask? Of course it does! Does it work for me? Not yet. Why not ? Because I haven’t plugged it in. Other than that I do believe it will work. The only problem I encountered so far was that a program called Sip fails the digests. I filed it under “Printing” in Gentoo’s Bugzilla. I was told its not a printing problem, its a python problem. Well obviously that guy’s never set up an HP printer because this is definitely a printing problem. In all honesty though, I think I can get it to work without Sip and without PyQt (the reason I need Sip). But the “check” program that comes with the HP drivers swears up and down that PyQt is required. Personally I think they should rewrite the program in something besides Python and be done with it.
When not working on setting up my printer and updating my system I was working on some Ruby. I didn’t really plan on doing any programming, especially in Ruby since I’ve never used it, until this guy on IRC started pushing my buttons over whether a not a certain file should be created by Paludis. Guy actually broke out words I don’t think he knew the definition of. Anyway way though I wrote the script, sent it to Pioto who then gave me the run down. All good news in my opinion. All of what could be considered bad news I expected so I wasn’t the least bit hurt to find out my script wasn’t repository worthy. Either way though I was proud of my script, and I still am.
