I guess it should come as no surprise a new version of Paludis was released. I would like to hope that 0.26 is close. In fact by alpha 9 it has become annoyingly close. Well the bug fixes and such are always welcome its the other things that get included that always make me wonder. For example, what are ICC oddities?
Finally, these are the words, in reference to Portage, I hoped I’d never have to see in the Paludis release notes:
We now emulate this stupidity.
It is indeed a sad day.
Enjoy the Penguins!
A sad day when developers can’t be civil to each other, yes. Imagine how popular Paludis would be if its developers didn’t have such attitude problems. I don’t use it and don’t plan to, partly for this reason.
Brian, maybe, but for solid software I’ll accept a lot. After all the great Torvalds isn’t exactly renowned for his super friendly attitude either, but you still use Linux don’t you?
I use Linux because there are no alternatives, and I don’t have to interact with or deal with Linus personally. Package manager devs fly much lower. Happily, Portage works well enough.
And I don’t think the comparison with Linus is entirely fair. Linus sometimes has good things to say about the competition, even Windows. I can’t imagine Linus trolling message boards and mailing lists calling users retards. Linus doesn’t appear to publicly go out of his way to insult the intelligence of everyone who disagrees with him. Linus is able to coordinate and get along well with thousands of developers from around the world. Linus does not come across as arrogant to the point where hardly anyone can stand to interact with him.
Yeah but Linus criticism is seen as a way to break the ice – this seems personal.
@Brian: But Linus called SVN users idiots, ’cause they don’t use GIT.

Best regards and sorry my poor English.
