First, check out the code from the Mercurial repository:
hg clone https://vim.googlecode.com/hg/ vim
You’ll probably end up having to install some software. Start with the following:
yum install libXt-devel libX11-devel gcc-c++ ncurses-devel python3-devel
I plan on using some plugins like Vundle, so you’ll need at least one version of Python. Fedora comes with this by default so you should just need the
-devel package above. If you’re going to be using something that uses Ruby or Perl instead substitute those in.
Next, go into the folder and run configure:
cd vim ./configure --prefix=/usr/local --with-features=normal --enable-python3interp --with-compiledby="Steven Oliver" --enable-gui=gnome2
Finally, build it and install:
make su -c 'make install'
